Appalachian Singles

Appalachian Singles is a dating site that helps bring together the students, faculty and alumni of Appalachian State University. The site has a nice simple design that is splashed with Mountaineer colors. The sign up process to get a free membership is fast and easy so I was inside checking out the site in no time. Once there I found a simple, clean member's area that is easy to navigate. There are only a few things you can do in the site including searching for other members and working on your profile. The site is pretty basic and doesn't have a lot of features.

A quick search for me brought up nearly 1000 women on the site. The problem is that they are all located in or around the Appalachian State area. If you live in that area, great, you are in business. If not, the site will not be of much use to you. There are slightly fewer men than women on the site, and they too are pretty local to the university. You can do a basic search which searches by age range and distance from you or you can use the super match feature which better matches you with people based on the answers in your profile.

The site has no chat rooms, forums, blogs or any other features. The only thing you can do is look at other's profiles and send them emails. You can check out the profiles for free, but if you want to contact someone directly you will have to get a paid membership.

In the end this is a site that people living in the area of and affiliated with the university might find useful, but anyone else will not find very worth while. It is a pretty simple site with not a whole lot of members and is really designed for one specific group. My score is based on how it would work for me, which is not well, but if you are within the target audience of the site it will be a little more useful than the score reflects.
