Lumberjack Singles is a dating site for the students, faculty and friends of Stephen F. Austin State University. The site is very localized with almost all of the members living in the area near the university. If you also live in this area, then this is good news. If not, it is not very good news.

The site has a nice clean design that makes navigating it very simple. Singing up for your free membership is also something that is easy to do. When signing up you can take the time to fill in all the details on your profile, or you can choose to skip it and fill it in later. I like that feature because it lets you check out the site before committing a bunch of time to filling out a detailed profile. Once you have a membership you can search the other member's profiles using a basic or advanced search. The basic search allows you to search by age range and distance from you while the advanced search, called Super Match, uses the details from your profile to match you with others. You can search the profiles and look at other people's profiles for free, but you will have to get a paid membership if you want to contact people directly.

Sadly, the search options are the only features on this site. There are no chat rooms or instant message options which is too bad, I would have liked to have seen something like that. Features aside, the potential biggest problem the site has is, as mentioned, just about all of the members live in the general area of the school which makes the site basically useless for just about anyone else.

The local nature of the site and the lack of extra features is why I scored this site on the lower end. I did this because for most people out there the site will not be very good. However, if you are among those that live in the area of the school or are involved with the school they you will probably find that the site has some real value because you do have a decent number of people all centralized and with at least the university as a shared point of interest.

Longhorn Singles is a dating site that brings together students, faculty and fans of the University of Texas at Austin. This is one of those sites that is a double edged sword. If you live in the Austin area or you are in some way affiliated with the school this is a nice site. There are over 6,000 members here so there is a large concentration of people in that area. However, there are very few members outside of that area so if you don't live there you will most likely find that the site is not of any real use to you.

As I mentioned above, how well this site works for you really does depend on where you live. I scored it on the low end because my score is reflective of how well it will work for the general population. For most people the fact that most of the members are in the Austin area and that there are no extra features like chat rooms or instant messaging makes the site not worth their time. But for those that live in the area, the site is actually pretty good. Sure, they don't have any extra features, but there are a good number of members all focused in your area and you all have the university in common. If this is you, ignore my rating and give this one a try. I think you will like it.

The site has a nice clean design that makes if very easy to navigate and getting a free membership is a fast and simple process. I like when a site does that because it gives me a chance to give the site a good look before you spend the time filling out the full profile and in the case of a site like this it might be an idea you would want to consider. The reason I say that is that this is a very localized site. About 95% of 3,500 members live in the Seattle, Tacoma area near the university. If you happen to live in that area the site could work well for you, but if not it probably won't.

So for those that live in that area, the site is good, but for most of the population that doesn't you won't be finding many – if any – members in your area.

Most of the 1200 members of the site are focused in the general area of the university so if you are one of them or you are near that area, this site might have some real value. If you are not affiliated with the university or you live outside of that general area then you probably won't find much to interest you here.

Berkeley Dates is a dating site that is directed towards the students, faculty and alumni of the University of California – Berkeley. The site looks really nice and has a slick, professional tour. Since this site is focused in the Berkeley area a search for people in my area returned zero matches. Overall there are about 225 women and about 450 men registered on the site. By most standards that is a very small amount of users, but since this site is focused in one area those that are in that area do have a nice selection of people to choose from. However, those like me who live outside the Berkeley area will have little use for the site.

The free membership sign up process is very quick and easy to fill out. There is a ton of detail you can add to your profile, but they let you skip all of that at sign up if you want and fill it out whenever. The member's area is very easy to navigate. There isn't a whole lot going on in this site so you can just use the main menu to navigate around.

As a whole, there are not a lot of members to this site. There are about 500 men and 500 women in the site. That isn't a lot, but the site is very location specific and almost all of the members are in the area of the university so in that small of a location it isn't too bad. The down side is that if you are in an area that is not near the university chances are very slim that there will be anyone near you and the value of the site declines sharply. You can search the profiles and look at people's profiles for free so you can always check it out and see if there is anyone near you before you spend your money.

My score on this one reflects what the average person will get from the site, so those of you closer to the university can consider the site as having a higher score.

The site has a nice looking design and I found signing up for a free membership to be fast and easy. Your profile can have a lot of detail in it, but they allow you to skip most of that when you sign up and fill it in later. The member's area is very clean and simple navigate. Sadly, this is where the good stuff about this site ends.

Doing a search for women on the site only returned 11 members. There were only 29 men. This isn't just in my area, but total on the site. The site is only a few years old, but that is still a tiny amount of members. The site does have some great search features, but you won't need them here since there are so few members you can just browse them all in a few minutes.

The site also lacks any kind of bonus features. There are no chat rooms, user forums or instant messaging capabilities that many dating sites now offer.

The bottom line on this one is that it is just way to small to recommend to just about anyone. If you are in the area of the University or you are affiliated with it, you might grab a free membership and just see if there happens to be anyone on the site that catches your eye. You can look at people's profiles for free, you only have to get a paid membership if you actually want to contact them so you aren't out anything but a few minutes to check it out.
