Longhorn Singles

Longhorn Singles is a dating site that brings together students, faculty and fans of the University of Texas at Austin. This is one of those sites that is a double edged sword. If you live in the Austin area or you are in some way affiliated with the school this is a nice site. There are over 6,000 members here so there is a large concentration of people in that area. However, there are very few members outside of that area so if you don't live there you will most likely find that the site is not of any real use to you.

Signing up for Longhorn Singles is a very quick and easy process. You do get the option of filling out a bunch of details for your profile when you sign up, but you can skip all of that if you want and fill it in later. I like that option so I don't spend a lot of time filling out a full profile for a site I don't end up using. Once inside you can search the member's profiles using two different search options. The basic search allows you to search by age range and distance from you while the advanced search, known as Super Match, takes the information off of your profile and uses that to better match you with people. Your free membership will let you search the profiles and look at people's profiles, but if you want to contact anyone directly you will have to get a paid membership.

As I mentioned above, how well this site works for you really does depend on where you live. I scored it on the low end because my score is reflective of how well it will work for the general population. For most people the fact that most of the members are in the Austin area and that there are no extra features like chat rooms or instant messaging makes the site not worth their time. But for those that live in the area, the site is actually pretty good. Sure, they don't have any extra features, but there are a good number of members all focused in your area and you all have the university in common. If this is you, ignore my rating and give this one a try. I think you will like it.
