Mean Green Singles

Single students, staff and alumni of The University of North Texas can use Mean Green Singles to meet and connect with each other. The site is meant for people involved with the university, but you don't have to be in order to use it. That said, almost all of the members of the site are located in the general area of the school so if you don't live in that area chances are there will not be many other members near you.

The local nature of the site aside, the site is easy to use and signing up for the free membership is fast and simple. Once inside you can use the basic search option to search the other members by age range and distance from you. This search gets detailed enough that it will let you search to within a five mile radius of your zip code. There is an advanced search option called Smart Match that uses the details from your profile to match you with other people. When you sign up you can skip filling out most of the details of the profile, but if you want to use the Smart Match you will have to fill them in. You can search all you want and check out other people's profiles for free, but if you want to contact someone directly you will need to get a paid membership.

Unfortunately, the search options are the only real features on the site. There are no chat rooms or instant messages options. This is a let down to me because many dating sites are starting to offer these features and I was hoping to see them here.

I gave this site a low score for a couple of reasons. First, is that it is a very localized site. Anyone not in the area of this school will not find much use for the site. There is also not that many features on the site for those that do live in the correct area. Still, if you do live in this area the site is worth checking out because at least you know there is a good concentration of people here and they all have the university in common.
