Single Spartans is a dating site that focuses on helping the single students, staff, alumni and friends of the University of North Carolina hook up. You don't have to be involved with the school in order to use this site, but almost all of the members of this site do live in the general area of the school so if you don't live in that area then the odds are pretty good that there will be no members near you and this site will be kind of useless to you.

Signing up for a free membership is a quick and simple process. You can choose to fill in all the details of your profile as you sign up or you can skip it and do it later. I like that option because it lets you take a good look at the site and decide it you plan to use it before committing the time and effort to filling in your profile. There are around 1200 members of this site with a pretty even split between men and women and the site offers you a couple of different ways to search the profiles for someone of interest. You can do a basic search which allows you to choose an age range and distance from you and filter your results with those criteria. There is also an advanced search called Smart Match which takes the information from your profile and uses that to better match you with like-minded people. If you had skipped filling in the details of your profile when you signed up you will need to do that before the Smart Match will work properly.

The search options are the start and finish of the features and while I really liked how they worked I was a little disappointed to see that there were no interactive features like instant messaging or chat rooms on the site.

Signing up for a membership, creating a profile, searching and looking at other member profiles can all be done with your free membership. You only have to get a paid membership if you want to contact someone directly. This is a great deal for a site like this. If you are questioning whether there will be people near you just jump in and give a free look. I did score the site on the low end because most people will find the local nature of the site to not work for them, but for those that live in the correct area go ahead and give this one a try. You will most likely be happy with what you see.
